Excellent. Here lately it does seem more of a problem from personal experiences and those shared by others here as well. I think its a great idea.

Hey Matt I hadn't really read this board before now. I think that's a great idea about the nasty PM thing. I've got some particularly vile ones from someone. Apparently someone else reported him because he go kicked for it. I never did report mine though.

Great idea Matt.

I do like the idea of adding a button for unsolicited PMs pumping a stock.

I haven't had a problem with vulgar private messages or messages that would basically be considered as solicitations.
Haven't received a one, to be truthful.

Still, there is no doubt there folks out there whose sole intention is to spam the private boxes of users with vulgarities and solicitations.

I agree. It is a good idea.

That is a step in the right direction. Of course you'd lose one of your mod squad persons because he does the vulgar pm's quite frequently.

Great idea to clean this place up.

Brilliant, there are a lot of two faced posters who resembles seriously disturbed personalities in their PM's, and then play the angel on public threads. I've been shocked a few times, and I'm considered quite the pro when it comes to cussing.

I agree with your sentiments re vulgar PM's, especially those sent to newbies. PM are a great feature, but like everything else, it has its limits.
I have to say that I miss the parking lot of old, though for some reason LOL
Happy holidays to you and the rest of the admins, especially my fav.. shelly.

Why don't you put a TOU refresher on the private message page? Or edit the one you have.

GREAT IDEA! so you can have PROOF and not people claiming otherwise... as that would be easy to do... why I mainly IGNORE privates and just hit the mass delete options without even looking at them... and very rarely respond or send any privates... in my total history on iHub... without that feature... anyone could make up stuff and send it to you, and make it look like it was a real private message sent by someone... when in fact it could be totally FAKE...

I have never reported ANYONE that sent me real threats ;) but would be a good idea, again so you have PROOF and not some made up crap.

As one who is just today and yesterday became the recipient of vulgar and demeaning PM's from no less a MOD of a board, and looked for a forward or reporting link.. This is a no brainier to me,, several members of IHUB play on peoples affections when they think they can get-away-with abusing people privately..

The problem with a TOU report on PMs is that only the 1 PM would be review, not in proper context with the rest of the conservation -- an absolutely vital benefit when reviewing public post TOU reports.

I do agree, however, that threats should be a "guilty until proven innocent" type of thing and perhaps it's a good idea for that. But vulgar PMs especially need to be put in context and users who are paying $10/month to have the ability to use PM should be given the benefit of the doubt in all cases.

The main problem is, IMO, is that most people aren't even aware that you can block people's PMs. The button at the very bottom of the PM doesn't stand out and kind of just blends in with the backround. Maybe a big red boxed button next to the "sent by" that read "block jimbob from sending messages" would then be utilized far more and is the most logical way to solve the problem is getting people to take advantage of that feature more.

Matt, I suggested earlier an option concerning PMs. Let all have a choice of looking at PMs only from people they have membermarked or from all, their choice. If they want to see all then don't complain, if a membermark is sending something also you don't want to see, remove the membermark.
Also asked this but got no response so far.
Can we see all that we have membermarked and can I see who I have membermarked?

It's a good idea IMO. There always seem to be a few people who act relatively decently in public but are extremely uncivil in private.

In general I'd rather not deal with cro-magnon men/women in private. Blocking works, but being able to flag an over-the-top message would add accountability, a good thing.

Matt, the ignore button works just fine to combat those nasty PM's. The problem with doing it the way you're suggesting is there could have been many nasty PM's back and forth and you would only receive the one a member sent you without seeing all the others that were exchanged. Hard to come down on a person without reading all the PM's and in order to get to the bottom of the complaint, you would have to cross the sacred line of privacy you mentioned and waste a lot of time. The only thing I would strongly suggest as new feature is:

Keep "Ignore this Poster" and "Block Posters Private Messages" separate. I noticed when you block a person from sending you PM's it also puts them on iggy which in my case is OK because if I'm blocking someone, I probably don't want to see them at all. Some people are not like that though, they want to debate other members on a stock specific board but don't want the nasty/vile PM's from these members they are debating. This would be a huge plus and you wouldn't have to get involved with going through a bunch of PM's figuring out who was at fault. If a member tells you they received a PM attack, just tell them to use the block PM feature, make a note of the PM attackers alias for future reference to see if there is a pattern of PM attacks and let the member who sent you the complaint know they will still be able to see/read/respond to messages on the boards from the PM attacker unless they use the "Ignore this Poster" feature....... That simple
