Think about it this way. If you were proficient in a marketing area and felt you were in fact an industry leader in that particular area (HMG) wouldn't you want your company to be initiating that effort going forward? He has complete control over everything which is a fantastic opportunity you don't always get with outside consultants. So the fact that he has signed his own company for this effort I think is great for development and quality control! AND, just because he owns HMG does not mean he should not get paid for his marketing work through that company...while he owns both they are still two seperate entities that need to survive independently.
