Of course with Yorkfield it's more like 300 MHz so the 2.5 GHz entry 12 MB Yorkfield will be equivalent to a 2.8 GHz Phenom in pricing.

As long as AMD can't make them they can charge whatever they want...

While gamers may be a primary driver for high end processors, it would be incorrect to assume that they base their decisions solely on the benchmarks for gaming. Reviewers display a breadth of benchmarks, and anyone I have every seen comment on reviews is that they base their decision on a wide variety of both game, media, and miscellaneous benchmarks.

If you are going to insist that the only comparison necessary is gaming performance, then you are going to have to back that up.

The 9900 and 9700 are vapor, and the 9800 doesn't exist on any roadmaps. So this comparison does not make sense. The right Q4 2007 comparison is:

2.4GHz Q6600 > 2.3GHz 9600 > 2.2GHz 9500

Period.

Sources have said that AMD will delay the 9700 until Q1, along with the 9900, assuming that doesn't face delays. In January, Intel will launch the non-XE Yorkfield chips. So while the timing of the Intel and AMD launch may be debatable, the end result will be:

2.5GHz Q9300 > 2.6GHz 9900 > 2.4GHz 9700

Phenom will give them a boost, so it's obvious that they can post an ASP that's better than $49. It doesn't take a genius to predict that, mas, nor is it of any interest or importance. The real important question is whether AMD can post a profit in the next couple of years. Care to make any predictions about that?
