DD on a similar, successful Facebook Add-On: iLike

iLike
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

iLike is a website that allows users to download and share music. The website makes use of a sidebar that is used with Apple's iTunes. The program and sidebar are not required in order to use the site but allow for ease in discovering new artists. Although the website is still in a somewhat beta version, it is open to anyone. The site had attracted around half a million users in the four months since launching. [1]

Facebook Application
iLike has a free Facebook application which allows users to play clips of music they like on their profile, show concerts they are going to and play a music trivia quiz. Shortly after the application was made available the music quiz had to be temporarily shut down due the unexpected demand. The application had great success after its release, making it one of the most popular applications. As of late October, 2007, 7% of all users, 700,288 in total, used the application daily. [2]

Overview
Born out of Garageband.com, ilike is a social music discovery site. Valued at $53.2 million in December of 2006, ilike has been funded by the likes of former MTV CEO Bob Pittman and at the time of the valuation, by Ticketmaster (IAC) which took control of 25% of the company for $13.3 million.

According to ilike, it promotes music democracy by exposing artists that users have not heard of, but may like according to their listening habits. Similar to Last.fm, ilike catalogs what you listen to through itunes (and now other players) with a downloadable application. What users listen to on itunes shows up in their ilike profile in categories defined by quantity and how recent a song has been played. In addition to displaying your own listening information, ilike tries to match you up with other ilike users who have similar tastes in music.

ilike has links to buy songs or albums from Amazon and itunes, but also offers free downloads from many independent musicians. Competitors include Last.fm and Berkeley, Ca based MOG.

Well if it does they can fix it.
Which is better, a site running great because it's so dull, boring and crummy that no one wants to visit? Or a site that has a crash because there are so many peeps coming on board that it can't keep up?
I vote for the second, lol.

I already talked to Micheal about that. He stated that they will just have to see what happens. I know the last server upgrade they did they built it to be scalable. So this means that upgrading will not take much. I will worry about that when it happens. But If micheal had to dilute some shares to upgrade their servers because they were gaining lets say 5-6K users a day or something crazy like that I dont think anyone would mind. But If he did see growth like that I think you would see outside investment get involved to be honest.
