I can't - won't - believe the current situation is what Apple envisioned. Something, somewhere has gone off the rails.

Amen.

Apple surely banked on rolling out high-definition iTS content, and building on that with any additional features Apple hoped to offer. The lack of high-def content (other than a few video blogs) is the killer here.
