When you and i speak of 'speculative stocks' i think we have two distinct worlds in mind - you are talking of the ones that attract frenetic posting on ragingbull and yahoo etc from hordes of logins comprised largely of hopeful beginner speculators and often, it would appear including paid promoters [i see no reason to doubt the latter] and/or insiders and/or just pros doing a frontrunning thing
Well i tend to think of speckies as drillbit plays, resource exploration projects, largely ... huge huge risk in them too, no doubt about it, most drill programmes fail, the great majority, and one must always keep that in mind .... this does not mean the companies fail however, good ones go on to resuscitate themselves on the next programme ... promotion figures large in the business, it must, if they don't get the story out they don't get the financing and there's no programme, period ... i have sold companies that i considered great in every respect but their failure to promote in what i considered a timely and effective fashion ... anyway, my point being that promotion can be quite legitimate, necessary to the function of the sharemarket even, which i see as the allocation of capital into the various projects ... there is good promotion and evil promotion, no question, but the distinction is fairly clear imho, the line between them coming the moment somebody lies to somebody else, or even just tells the truth in a deceptively selective fashion
Most canadians, at least the ones i respect, frequently refer to their favourite stocks du jour as 'that PoS XXX' ... just a different attitude i guess, a recognition of the inherent risk in all business and of the fact that no management out there can ever be perfect, or any project certain of success
On all that ad hominem stuff - i find it boring mostly, except the odd time somebody gets in a witty line ... trouble is though, you spend enough time on the internet and you tend to have heard all the lines a few dozen times -g- ... somebody flames me, i look at whatever facts and logic they're presenting, do a quick rethink, if i think there's something to their argument i'll say so, if not well then there's the Next button right there ... unless i can think up a witty line that might be new to somebody there -g- ... cheers
