Lango, iPhone strategy...

I wasn't a fly on the wall when Jobs was negotiating with the carriers. I don't know what to think.

Who did he have to work with? AT&T and Verizon for sure, Sprint(?), T-Mobile(?) - kinda small players in comparison. I seem to recall there were reports that Verizon just would not give Apple the freedom in design that they asked for (may have been more to it).

Jobs got concessions no other phone mfg has got from a carrier. It isn't unreasonable to think that he agreed to a five year exclusive and a 2-year phone lock as part of the deal. So then, he made the most of it.

I guess I don't get exactly what you are complaining about. What do you think Jobs should have done, given the constraints? I don't think we even know what those constraints are, so how do we judge?

Are sales not meeting expectations? Then I guess the price/performance of the phone, the terms/rates of the contracts meet customer expectations.

If you are saying Apple could make even more sales with an unlocked phone (or a mini-tower, for that matter), OK, no argument. But could they have got it to market?

lango: <Excellent and to be applauded by those interested only in the near-term performance of AAPL.>

You forgot to add "in my opinion". Surely you are aware that there are others who have opinions different than yours.

There, I did it for you.
You're very welcome.
