Utterball, one of us is confused and I'll state at the outset, it's probably me. Here is my understanding. Please tell me where I'm wrong:
HPV is a virus. It would not show up on a DNA test. It is not part of the DNA, it is foriegn. It should be in the blood stream. Testing for it would not require a DNA screen in any fashion. I think the whole point to the story about the potential of being able to use the HPV test without the pap is that it is exciting that women may not have to suffer the intrusion anymore. If the HPV requires that a tissue sample be taken, I'm not sure what the big deal would be about finally being able to lose the pap. Sorry in advance if I'm all wet here but I appreciate being set straight.
