Has google blown anyone away yet with anything other than search and ads? Search is the only place they have affected my life.

Maybe they will do better at a phone OS than they did with video. Does anyone have an indication that will be the case?

Lango, I still think Google may be eyeing the OS market for mobile devices, rather than aiming to actually produce hardware. Not sure I'd want a mobile phone subsidised by advertising and with Goog all roads lead to an ad link.
These could be prototype generic phones for the development community, to see what can be built on top of a Google mobile OS and get public feedback.
