NG News: Tribunal Sacks Kebbi Governor
- x The Guardian -
SAIDU Dakin Gari of Kebbi State became the second governor to be sacked within 10 days by an Election Petitions Tribunal looking into the conduct of the April 2007 polls across the country.
The tribunal sitting in Birni Kebbi yesterday annulled the election of the governor, who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A similar tribunal in Lokoja had nullified on October 10, the election of the Kogi State governor Mohammed Idris, also of the PDP.
The Tribunal found that Saidu Dakin Gari, who is President Umar Musa Yar'Adua's son-in-law, was not properly nominated by the party.
Yesterday's two- hour judgment would be the second time that the election of a governor would be overturned by a Tribunal.
The Tribunal ordered that a new gubernatorial election should be conducted by the Independent Elections Commission (INEC).
Gov. Dakin Gari is , however said to be planning to appeal the Tribunal's judgment.
