Elmer, Re: When Pentium first came out it ran at 60 & 66MHz while the 486 was at 100MHz. Pentium was huge, very hot and almost no binsplit to 66MHz. Somehow it turned out to be successful, to say the least.

I wouldn't mind seeing Prescott scale to 5GHz in the next year. I think that would justify things, but I don't see it happening. Not with Intel promising only 4GHz by the end of the year. Besides, the Pentium had huge performance advantages over the 486, and it even outperformed at a much lower frequency. Prescott barely gets performance parity, and even with software enhancements doesn't get more than about a 10% advantage. I think Intel should shift all their Prescott resources towards getting Tejas out the door.
