I've fallen into the same mental trap. I've been trading in my taxable accounts, and do buy and hold in the non-taxable. Just the opposite of what I should be doing. I can't seem to overcome this idea that it is irresponsible to be gambling with your 401K - as if buying and holding Cortex in your 401K is not gambling.
This year I got lucky on some housing crash bets, but it's all in taxable accounts. I'm petrified to take profits because of the taxes. It makes me think of stupid schemes like selling Cortex here for a tax loss, and then trying to buy it back after 30 days.
