but I think your problem is that you like to argue for the sake of being the opposing viewpoint.

only when that opposing viewpoint is not properly represented. I do play Devil's advocate and look at all sides but only to get a view on the whole picture which you can't do being firmly entrenched in one side or another. You guys are writing off Barcelona without seeing its full performance profile as I'm sure it will do better than Clovertown in TPC-C and SAP at least per clock as well as SpecWEB. These are all important benchmarks for general server customers. You are also ignoring totally its virtualization features as well as its better SpecCPU performance using non-Intel compilers. Concentrating on basically workstation benchmarks and saying it is a failure is not doing your proper DD and I'm telling you early for your own benefit as I already am aware of Barcelona's all round performance and how good it is.

I admire AMD's engineers who really did go the distance with a alot less money.

When we moved to Austin in late the late 90s there were commercials on the local new wave/rock station that said if you want to work at a really 'rockin' place that was cutting edge with really cool people send your resume to AMD, I mentioned it to my husband, but he was at IBM many years and had tried to buy and AMD based processor PC from Gateway a few years earlier and been unable to so he didn't have a lot of good vibes about Gateway or AMD, but those commercials did recruit fine engineers and opteron and athalon were the result. They were cool commercials.

I find AMD's management despicable. Their marketing reps less than zero.
