Also, in your settings,

Auto-Refresh should be on.
Refresh Rate (in seconds) non zero.
Play Embedded Sounds On - probably doesn't matter
Alert Browser Window On New Messages On
Sound for New Message Notification something other than none.

Unless you have IHub on your "favorites" page, you will not get an audio alert until your next visit the favorites page. That is, the only place the audio alert plays is from the favorites page.
