Submit/Keep and Submit/Archive have nothing to do with your PM. They relate to the PM to which your are replying.

If you hit Submit/Keep (or Submit from the preview window -- there is no Submit/Archive in the preview window), it will keep (leave) the original PM to you (the one to which you are replying) in your Mailbox.

On the other hand, it you hit Submit/Archive, then the PM to which you are replying will get moved from your mailbox to your archive automatically. You can also simply hit the remove button (far right) in your mailbox and it will also move the PM to which you are replying to your archive.

Hope this makes sense and is not more confusing than the question.
