Of course! I have posted on the phenomenon of single stock message boards, which usually turn into 'koolaid' or cult boards.

At the head of each of those cults is a messiah, and a bunch of cheerleaders who generally have 'little birdies' revealing all kinds of supposedly useful information.

The message board becomes an echo chamber, and people psych themselves into ever deeper levels of delusion about the stock's potential. At some point the distortion field is so great, outsiders can only shake their head, watching in amazement. It's as if the posters on the dedicated board were speaking in tongues about their imaginary playmate the giant rabbit.

Of course if you step in and question the rabbit's existence, you'll be attacked quite viciously. No one likes to have their delusions punctured, so it's better off not even getting involved, unless someone you really care about is going to lose money. For the most part all you'll get for your troubles is being labeled a 'basher', and you could even wind up with a few stalkers who will make your message board existence hellish for a while. You can't save anyone around here, unless they want to be saved. Most will have to learn the hard way, unfortunately.

Regarding your point how the message boards are used by penny companies, that is absolutely the case. For penny stocks, a good board pump is worth 10 PRs, and the companies know that. Alot of time and money goes into cultivating pump message boards.

Once you know what a paid promoter looks like (and there are very clear indications in their profile and the pattern of their posts) you can begin to see that on certain message boards 60-70% - or more - of the most active posters are all being paid to be there.

On a few stocks, I've noted that nearly 90% of the posters on a board were on the pay of the company...lol!

People have no idea the number of yellow-eyed wolves stalking these woods, looking for fresh meat
