Gee Semi, I must've missed the post in which you made a public explanation for your prediction of a 15-20% avg IPC improvement for Prescott.

Now AMD64 is not a "real" 64b ISA? I guess we should take this new claim with a truckload of salt, huh?

--- Thanks for the feedback, I did. You're right, I'm wrong, My opinion has completly changed. I now think that Intel should come out with a "kludged" x86-64 product...... too, in addition to IA-64. Just in case it does need that that "economy of scale" thing. In that case, all that mfg investment intel made way back when, is looking better every day. On the other hand, if x86-64 is not long term for this world, IA-64 can be waiting in the wings. Still all good. Thanks for the enlightenment.

I never stopped believing that IA-64 can be waiting in the wings if x86-64 is not long term for this world. I used to major in pure math, but I do learn that not everything can be "ideal" - without considering the cost and portabilty/compatibility, I do think Itanium is a better performer than Opteron overall. But when x64-64 become 'mainstream', and it is for sure the case, you can forget about the chance that IA64 will replace x64-64 in the future. Why? COMPATIBILITY

just my 2 cents
