Semi is baiting.

He knows the AMD64 design does not use 64 bit addressing. Only 40-bit physical addressing while the data is 64 bit. Therefore the current pep talk Intel is using is that the AMD64 is not a true 64 bit processor.

AMD doesn't need a proprietary design. It already has something Intel doesn't.

I think the future instruction set market is pretty much clear now. Essentially, 99% of all world cpu's will be divided between 2 base architectures: AMD64 at mid- to high-end and ARM at low- to mid-end. That's pretty much it.
