#52616 RE: OakesCS #52610

quick edit: I started posting before I saw rfj and Dew's posts about dropping the off-topic on taxes, etc. sorry.

Lumpy,
you are free to imagine that I implied something that isnt there.

OK, I'll paste your quote again:

Somehow these poor "downtrodden" folks you seem to be inclined to redistribute wealth to are perfectly content to chain smoke, drink heavily, buy lottery tickets, and do crack.

If you're not implying that the above activities are performed by the lowest tax bracket, then what are you saying?

You are also free to imagine that by raising taxes it will help some poor waiter/waitress.

Not at all what I am "imagining". It is the lowering of taxes for the lowest brackets that will help the waiter/waitress and everyone else in the lowest brackets. To fund the lowering of those taxes, you need to raise the taxes on the wealthy (not to mention stop building "bridges to nowhere" and the other pork barrel earmarks).

What we really hate is the changing of the rules routine and folks who think that success should be punished rather than rewarded.

If you hate changing of the rules, would you then like to see the cap gains and dividend tax revert to 20%? Or the highest income tax bracket shoot back up as it was a few decades ago? Punished for success makes it sound like prison....how about feeling good that you are lucky enough to be so successful that you contribute more to education and helping this country with your tax dollars than the next guy who doesn't make as much?

Either way...feel free to have the last word. I said I wouldn't reply, but apparently can't help myself.

Have a nice evening,
Geoff
