Barcelona can use registered ECC DDR2-1066 memory, why wasn't it used?

No it can't. 667MHz is the max and it won't even boot with anything faster. Support for 800MHz will be added in Q1 (AMD time).

Dear Pete

Penryn is just as available as Barfalona. In fact Nehalem is just as available as Barfalona and Intel's demo yesterday showed as much functionality as we've seen in any public demo from AMD. You and mas are probably the only two people on the planet with your definition of meaningful benchmarks and Barfalona even gets beat there. We can bet our bottom dollar if there was some other obscure benchmark some where that Barcelona looks good at then it will suddenly be the new most important benchmark until Barfalona gets creamed there too. Face it, this was the biggest disappointment in AMD's history. Their behemoth 283mm2 die is virtually unmanufacturable on AMD's self admitted poor yielding 65nm process. Brokealona is simply a desperate attempt to dump broken die on unsuspecting customers. You'll make every attempt to polish this broken turd but I hope customers see through it.
