Taxes and tolls for roads can't be called a subsidy

They are paid by the people using the roads via gasoline taxes not by the taxpayers in general. Its hard to call that a subsidy.

Pollution is an externality not a subsidy

I thought maybe there was an actual subsidy I didn't know about. Thanks for clarifying that there wasn't.

As it turns out its actually mass transit being subsidized. Where I live it is so economically unviable that somewhere around 75% of the cost is subsidized by taxpayers rather than those who use the service. I suppose you have no trouble with that massive subsidy though?
