I think it is interesting that they are taking this time to wait for a side scan of Toms Wreck when they already have been told the site has a wreck. Maybe someone can fill me in on this, but normally you use side scan to search for a missing shipwreck when you are trying to find it, not after you already know it is there.
The side scan by itself will probably not show any treasure, but what it will show is the shape and size of the site and nothing more. Yes it can show detail such as cannon and other things but on the whole you won't know enough by the scan itself [the unit they are using doesn't seem that capable]. And while it is important to know these details it can give I don't think you would use a side scan to determine if the site is viable, as that can only be done by inspection.
It may be the company is planning on doing this site as though it was first discovered and will do a side scan and then the inspection. But it just seems to me they could have skipped the side scan for now and used the money they spent on the equipment to rent an ROV for a couple of weeks {or even one week} and received a better bang for the buck.
