The massacre of the Yazidis occurred 'nearby' but outside of the autonomous Kurdish region. This area is scheduled to vote for annexation into Kurdistan later this year. Kurdistan IS safe, stable, and prosperous. There are other Kurdish areas of Iraq outside Kurdistan, and they obviously, are not so fortunate.
