Specifically, this phrase:

Applying your principle of pre-emptive force against our enemies would have had us at war with probably half of the globe during the 1960's and 1970's.

Have you ever served in the armed forces? I don't anticipate an answer, as you didn't answer my previous question regarding foreign travel. Have you ever killed another man?

How would you have felt about going to war with the Eastern Block, Russia, China, and North Korea at the same time during that time? You would have had to also go into much of South America, Cuba, and Africa also. We maintained stability through Detente, which allowed the Soviet empire to slowly strangle itself and its fellow socialist states. We lost lives in Vietnam, but how many more would have been lost if we applied this pre-emptive force to the Soviet block? We're talking real nukes here, not imagined ones.

I do believe what I think matters. I do believe more matters than who I vote for. I'm afraid we will be at an impasse on those issues.

I don't believe we can reduce the world or issues to sound bites. The world is not black or white. Politics is varying shades of gray, and difficult strategic issues deserve more thoughtful discourse than are often offered up.

By the way, I assume you have no problem with China taking Taiwan in a pre-emptive strike, Pakistan taking India for the same reason, and Syria and Egypt going into Israel again. After all, these countries are enemies, have missiles pointed at eachother, and need to deal with threats before their enemies act first, right?

I guess that must be why then Bush is appeasing N.Korea, a country with real WMDs and a REAL threat to the US and the world, and instead decided on an illegal lying cowardly war against an already contained Iraq that was no treat to anyone, with a military that was all but disarmed. But after all, what would you expect from a corrupt big oil elitist AWOL president who is in the pockets of special interests. WAKE UP!
