TOL-house tidbit:

TOL asks customers who forfeit their (sizable) deposits by not closing a contract to state the main reason for backing out.

Among the common answers are the obvious ones:

a) “We couldn’t sell the old house.”
b) “Our financial circumstances changed.”
c) “The mortgage fell through.”

But there is (actually was) another large answer choice:

d) “I’m not telling you the reason—just keep my deposit and leave me alone.”

In other words, the professional house flippers.

"my taxes shouldn't pay to rescue them from their idiocy." Agreed...let the greedy "flippers", builders, investors, and home buyers (who actually occupied) who also had visions of a quick turn and a nice profit pay for their indiscretions. A government bailout only reinforces the belief that no one will ever suffer an adverse consequence when they sign a contract.
