That is how I see it, too.

I have several things I am playing... some shorter term than others. As the quiet period proceeds, I find myself able, due to profits in these others, able to unwind positions in an orderly way. When I feel pressed by an immediacy issue (like... "Buy SPZI NOW!!!!!!), I sometimes get in a hurry and am forced to bail on something too soon, because I feel pressed to find funds to move into it. I prefer, as a practical matter, to move in a thoughtful & organized way.

Sometimes I think we as a people have gotten too short term in our thinking. Now bear in minds I daytrade for a living, so I'm the quentessential short term investor. So if a guy like me criticizes the thinking that seems to predominate out there as being too short term & impatient, it is different from it would be if it were coming from some old codger whose framework of reference was "buy & hold".

Every weekend, I inevitably end up talking to other parents in various social settings about investments. So, SPZI usually comes up in the conversation. Some line like: "So... what are you seeing that is a good idea right now?", gets asked, and I have gotten in the habit of replying: "SPZI... I expect it to triple by January 2008". Now between you & me and the wall, I want and frankly expect much more than a triple, but to the ordinary investor, 300% return in 4 months is unbelievable. So, thats my party line answer: a deliberate decision to pare back my expectations and also a deliberate decision to buy any dips, if I can do so without having to liquidate other positions that I'd prefer to see mazture naturaly. So, right or wrong, thats my current thinking as regards the quiet period.

Buy the dips. Be ready each day in case the MMs stage another bear raid. Be patient. Develop a plan & stick to it until something changes that necessitates a change in approach. Thats my opinion of how to play the quiet period, but everybody needs to make up their own minds & flesh out their own plans.

Have a good day trading everybody.
