Where have you seen this? I watch pretty closely and I've never seen Intel make such a claim.

New socket me not be necessary, since Xeon can already address 36 bits, which is enough short term,

And Intel has a new socket on deck, with more pins. Charlie an The Inquirer speculated that some are for wider addressing capability.

Inquirer sources have already claimed on other forums that a Dell prototype Opteron Server already exists, said to have actually touched it if memory serves, and is being used in the fashion you described, as a bargaining counter.
