AMD rallies amid analyst upgrade (AMD) By Tomi Kilgore
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) was up 17 cents, or 1 percent, at $16.93 after Schwab SoundView upgraded the chipmaker to "outperform" from "neutral." Analyst Hans Mosesmann believes "a significant shit in management is taking place," as founder and chairman Jerry Sanders had become "more of an issue" for shareholders. He said chief executive Dr. Hector Ruiz could talk total control of the company's strategic direction, which he believes would be a "positive" for the stock. Mosesmann raised his price target to $23 from $16.

I'm not selling today. Remember, AMD flash sales were very good in Q1 last year. I see no point to expect Q1 flash to be bad comparing with Q4. Maybe 2-3% down, that's it.

Moreover, at least 500K of A64's with asp of at least $200 are coming this quarter. And Athlon XP sales must slide down no more than 10%. Add Opteron.

I see Q1 flat to 2-3% down comparing to Q4.

Next, I really expect AMD to put all bad stuff into Q4, keep it just slightly profitable, at 0.08-0.10 level, with decreased expenses in Q1. Must make it profitable as well.

There is a very good chance that they will have all 4 quarters of this year in green. No money shower, but nice firm profit.
