claiming things'll be faster some day in the future is a facetious argument when making present day comparisons. As I'm sure you know, there is just as much, if not more non-optimized software running on Intel. It too will be far superior in the future to where it is now.
It would be nice to have the gap closed somewhat, but the bottom line is, the G5 gets absolutely wiped off the desktop in a number of important functions that are part and parcel of the lives of professional digital photographers as things stand now.
You are absolutely right, though, when Apple gets the G5s to market, the gap will be narrowed substantially. Maybe with further OS and app optimization, the gap will be nearly closed all together. Of course, I wouldn't expect the Wintel side to be standing in place between now and next summer/fall when Apple reaches 3.0 Ghz. They are optimizing too, as is Adobe.
