Our education system is no worse than when you were going to school. Unfortunately today we measure the results more. I'd say the students of today are much smarter than when you were going or I was going to school (50-60's). However today parents put their children in "college courses" when maybe they should be in vocational courses. Also, many jobs in the past hired HS students but today there are more college grads so one needs a College degree to do something that in the past all one needed was a HS degree.
If one looks at the % of kids taking the SATS now vs. then there is no comparison. In your day less than 30% I bet took the SAT's. If you gave it to 80 or 90% of the students when you went to school I doubt 700 would be an average score. But it's always nice to think of the good old days isn't it.
