<it is about making a profit right???>

Yes, in the end it IS about the company making profit. However in the short to intermediate term it is often about stock price manipulation in order to protect the 'bagholders' and allow the Wall Street firms to make a profit by pumping and dumping etc.

We saw this happen over the past 3-4 years or so when Wall Street continued to push negative story after negative story on INTC even while the company was producing solid financials in order to drive everyone that they could out of the stock. This provided them with a nice entry point into the stock once THEY decided to begin reversing the negative information flow (which is just going on now). I see Wall Street doing the exact opposite manipulation on AMD. Holding up the stock price, encouraging accumulation of the stock at this price because the worst is behind them etc. All the while waiting until everyone that might buy AMD at these prices has done so before they reverse their position in order to capture the most profit possible. This is all JMO of course of the way Wall Street operates. Once you accept this (as I have), the best that can be hoped for is to hang around long enough and catch the crumbs that fall off the table (which can still be considerable).

The most probable reason in my experience is that part of the deal was that Orton would stay on to allay investor "fears" that all was not Hunky Dory in transition-land-ville.

Since it is my theory that the whole deal was done to spin way ATI execs from jail time (for backdating options), and since it is my theory that the only reason that Henry got Hector to agree is that Hector got to stick about 20 Million in his pocket for giving AMD enough borrowed money to last another couple of quarters, Orton's leaving was always in the cards.

He didn't "quit". He wasn't fired. He simply had to wait until the dust settled before he could take his blood money and run.

There is no good spin to be made out of this deal no matter how much true believers like mas try.
