-Med Awarded Contract for Upgrade of Cockpit Printers for Boeing C-17 Aircraft Thursday June 28, 11:30 am ET
WEST WARWICK, RI--(MARKET WIRE)--Jun 28, 2007 -- Astro-Med, Inc. (NasdaqGM:ALOT - News) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to replace the printers used on the C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft. The contract was placed by Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, Long Beach, CA, and is expected to generate approximately $3 million in revenues over the next several years.
Astro-Med has been furnishing its ToughWriter 3 printer for the C-17 since 2002. Boeing and the Air Force decided to upgrade to the newer Astro-Med ToughWriter 4 series printers, which offer more advanced features in the same size configuration. The new ToughWriter 4 printers will be installed in all C-17s, which now have ToughWriter 3 printers, as well as in new production aircraft.
Commenting on the award, Tom Carll, Sales Manager of the T&M product group, stated that "engineering of the printers will begin immediately so as to smoothly transition from the present ToughWriter 3 to the new ToughWriter 4. The printer will be used in the cockpit of the C-17 for printing maps, approach plates, aircraft weight and balance information and ground communications." Carll says this is just one of many proposals and negotiations that Astro-Med has been working on as Astro-Med continues to be the leading provider of ruggedized printers for the avionics industry.
