But it's not a question of whether Microsoft would simply give up space. Or in the converse choose not to plow forward if there was no external cost to doing so.
The scenario we discussed a couple days ago, however, involved a significant cost - both direct and opportunity cost. That cost, in my estimation (and which you didn't seem to rebut in any way) far outweighed the benefit of taking that course. Which is why I believe what I believe about how Microsoft would respond. Because Gates is an economically rational guy and the company is an economically rational creature.
