#22664 RE: kpf #22632

kpf, WIFI security needs depend on the environment it is working in, and the information on the machines. For a home system mostly running games you are OK with (the much maligned) WEP. That will give you weak encryption, which will make it inconvenient for anyone to eavesdrop on your WIFI traffic, but won't stop a hard core hacker.

If you are running a small business then you should have your WIFI set up on a separate subnet going into its own port on your firewall, and all the servers should be behind the firewall. No server holding data should be on the WIFI, although you can put a dedicated print mini-server there. The WIFI subnet should be considered outside the network (just like the internet) and protected the same way.

The most security would then also add a VPN between the client and the firewall, going into that dedicated firewall port. WIFI clients should be protected exactly like remote internet clients.

So to properly address your question, I would need to know how you are using your machine. That is what I meant by defining your security level - understand how you are going to use the WIFI connection, and how important the info is on the machine.
