OT: You can sell them at anytime till the expiration date. In fact its better to do so so you don't get caught by a surprise down move. Sometimes in fact the MMs and other players will take the stock price down starting a few days to a week before the ex date just to screw the options holders and leave them with worthless options.

OT:Yes, you bought to open the contract. If you do not wish to take delivery of the shares (assuming the contract is in the money by the expiration date) then you would sell to close the position hopefully with a premium higher than you paid.

You cant sell these options before September 20! Actualy you can but its not a "sale" its a 3rd party transaction through another investor who buys these and he waits for it to mature.There are investors who will buy these before maturity at a HUGE discount. If hold until the option expires and the stock is UP you can borrow $$$ to excercise the option. costs you $0.00 to make 30-80% for example (or more)what do you have options on?
