I would not put too much stock in those old benchmarks. I think Prescott will have higher IPC than Northwood. Maybe not as much as chipguy predicts, but between 5 and 10% average, more on some apps that fit better in larger caches, less on others.

I think the assumption was that Prescott would have a clock speed ramp just like Northwood had, and the main problem with it (Prescott) is that the expectations of the clock speed ramp of Prescott were not fulfilled. Big part of the blame for that may be on the side of the quality of the 90nm process. At least that's my take.
