seabass, this latest terrorists threat eminating from jfk international airport has me scratching my head. i havent yet seen a picture of the alledged terrorists, only sketches. something similar happened a little over a year ago in my hometown and it was national news. that case was some young guy that was going to set off bombs in trash cans in cherry vale mall. they never had any pics of him either, just sketches that made him look like the devil complete with pointed ears in some of the renderings. weve never heard anything more about that case either. sometimes i wonder if he ever existed. from what i hear, many people in my hometown think that way too... and they are in a conservative area.

If he was a frequent traveler abroad, Mantoux testing would have been routine for him... A chest x-ray would follow a positive Mantoux, with sputum cultures and/or biopsy to determine strain.

But the bottom line on this guy -- if he were contageous, he would NOT be doing tabloid news programs. With active, multi-drug resistant TB, he would be in a large teaching hospital, in isolation, in a negative pressure room, under the strictest resp/droplet precautions... That would be the protocol for active TB. The strain of M.tb has not been disclosed, has it??...

This case, like so many others, is being hyped for the fear factor. What they're not reporting is that TB is on the rise, largely because of unchecked, illegal immigration into the US from high risk nations... Illegal immigration is the TB threat faced by us all, but it goes unreported because "investigative journalism" has gone the way of the dinosaur in the US. As for the southern (open) border, the national security threat is very real.
