ATLANTIC CITY — Tropical trees tower overhead, the soothing sounds of water wash away even the most frazzled nerves and the climate promises an “endless summer” of 80-degree days. Hurry, name the place. Atlantic City? Nah, can't be. But it is.
Harrah's Atlantic City has taken escapism to the next level with a $28 million pool and spa complex dressed up in exotic splendor underneath a soaring, 90-foot-high glass dome.
Aptly dubbed The Pool, it is the most eye-catching part of Harrah's $550 million expansion project. It's also the latest nongaming attraction in Atlantic City's endless quest to be more like Las Vegas.
“If you look at the Las Vegas business model, you'll see that close to 60 percent of the revenue is from nongaming,” said R. Scott Barber, senior vice president and general manager of Harrah's.
