Baghdad, 23 May 2007 (Voices of Iraq)

The Iraqi parliament debated in Tuesday's session several draft laws, a parliamentary media source said.

"The session, held under Speaker Dr. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, started with the reading of a speech marking the 40th day anniversary of legislator Mohammed Hussein Awad," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

Awad, a member of the Sunni National Dialogue Front (NDF), was killed in the April 12 bomb attack on the parliament.

Led by Saleh al-Mutlak, the NDF has 11 seats in the Iraqi parliament, out of the total 275.

The parliament also voted in favor of Iraq's ratification of two protocols on children's rights and witnessed the first reading of a draft law on the country's adoption of an agreement on international railways for the Arab Mashreq countries.

It also debated a draft law on meters of production and export of crude oil and derivatives.
