KNOCKING OUT THE AIRWAVES
I am pleased to share that The Fight Network will launch its second radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio next Monday. FIGHT NETWORK RADIO will be available throughout North America on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 186 at 3 PM EST daily and will be hosted by The Fight Network’s own Mauro Ranallo. The shows will also be available for download at www.thefightnetwork.com
First-week guests include UFC 71’s Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Chris Leben, Kalib Starnes, UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and others. I will be reporting from Las Vegas all next week, and we’ll also have a live on-site broadcast Saturday night following the fights at 1 AM EST.
“BIG” JOHN MCCARTHY JOINS THE FIGHT NETWORK
The Fight Network family continues to grow – “big” time. Iconic MMA referee “Big” John McCarthy has come onboard as an analyst, and will make his Fight Network debut on our original TV series “After The Bell” following UFC 71 to give his insight. A 13-year veteran of the sport, McCarthy will impart his wisdom at TheFightNetwork.com in the coming weeks as well. For more information on McCarthy’s storied career, click here
COUTURE – LIGHTS, CAMERA, “ACTION” STAR
I reported here a couple of weeks ago that Randy Couture auditioned for and earned a role in the coming major motion picture “Redbelt,” written and directed by the Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet. Variety.com reported Monday that comedic thespian Tim Allen has joined the cast along with Mamet regular Joe Montegna (“The Godfather III”) and the film’s star Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Children of Men”).
Mamet, an admirer of mixed martial arts and jiu-jitsu, has set his script of intrigue and betrayal in the oh-so-hot world of combat sports.
Dubbed a “mixed martial arts” movie in the article, the storyline is fairly character-driven, says Couture, who will play the role of an announcer in the film’s sole fight scene.
Couture’s acting aspirations have long been a goal for the fighter with nine lives. Last year, the mild mannered Couture had a small role in Rob Schneider’s prison comedy “Big Stan,” out this summer. For “Red,” UFC Heavyweight Champion Couture, 43, reports to the set in early June, then will begin his training cycle for challenger Gabriel Gonzaga, who he faces August 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena for UFC 74.
MMA standout Enson Inoue has also been cast in "Redbelt" in a non-speaking role.
