getting out
I'm not considering selling the AAPL I've got left -- my long-term take on the company isn't new here -- but I am considering selling appreciated Jan '09 calls. In the month or so I've held then they've gone from $16 or $17 to $28 or so.
The downside is that a call with this long a maturity might be capable of qualifying for the long-term capital gain treatment, no? Hmm. If Apple does what I expect, holding could halve my tax ....
Decisions, decisions. At least I'm looking at the "how much profit to take now" problem instead of the other problem.
In other news, I'm watching SHLD and NYX for evidence of a bottom. I think NYX's international sales and SHLD's margins improvement (and room for more improvement, given the margins of competitors, including smaller competitors) make them interesting plays, but I've repeatedly admitted here I can't time trades to save my life.
Good thing my life doesn't depend on it!
Take care,
