Gosh, the press release is about delay of the result release! My bad.
Here is my guess about the 3 databases. One database may contain patients basic infomation such as age, gender, allergic history...., another one is the symptom scores recorded on a daily basis, and the third one records whether the patient is taking placebo or real drug. The databases have to be anonymized so that nobody knows who is taking what. They got to have a reference table that has a matching key to merge all these databases.
It could be messy and takes some time. I don't see anything negative or positve here. Very normal.
