Fine, but what is the possible logic in publicly antagonizing FDA leadership? This seems to be what Dr Pazdur is doing via Scher and Hussain.
I'm no expert in beaureacratic infighting, but shouting to the world that your executive management is wrong doesn't seem like a way to win friends, much less win the battle. Von E is the ultimate "decider" here.
Scenarios:
-- The battle is already lost -- Pazdur et al know it, and are simply going on record and trying to make the process as distasteful as possible to Von E and CBER. They assume they'll be at FDA long after Von E is gone, and will continue to fight.
-- The behavior simply is nuts -- Pazdur et al have let ego/pride/greed overtake rational judgement.
-- The battle is not yet lost -- Pazdur et al think that by rallying allies amongst traditional clinicians and researchers (eg, the incoming ASCO head) they can still prevail.
