I'd have to agree with that. When I am trading a stock I want to be able to just glance at a L2 screen and see what is going on. The common format displaying MM depth using colors to separate the various tiers is very easy on the eyes and lets you see in an instant what is going on.

I have used spreadsheets but I have to admit that I would not choose a spreadsheet view or format as my source for level 2. But that may be just my personal preference and others might find it suitable.
