I have had a few experiences with small town (municipal / county) wannabee cops that were more humor than attempted abuse of power. Does the name “Barney Fife” ring any bells?
On two different DUI check-stops, two decades apart, in two different provinces, the same general scenario happened to me. The R.C.M.P. Officer was in charge of the check of the driver (me) for drinking (nope, none either time), driver’s license, registration, and insurance, and any glaring vehicle defects. As always, he was professional and polite. Meanwhile, the wannabee was running around making a fool of himself. Almost a comic diversion.
Both times, the look on the R.C.M.P. Officer’s face was: “Get me out of here!” “They never told me that I would have to put up with this crap when I enlisted!”
