If the patent portends accessibility of third-party players, wrapped with an Apple interface, you could end up with both. aTV for movies, but running off a dedicated player and not from a pre-ripped library á la iTunes.
Makes one wonder. I just have doubts about how Apple would make the UI run. Offer an Apple-designed dumbed-down interface showing the "usual" things a person wants, or enable compatible players to expose custom feature sets (e.g., amps offering different choices in surround, or piping output to different rooms/zones).
