Why not? It's not like 525GB of disk is that expensive these days. In fact, most servers probably have disk storage in terms of terabytes.
I don't accept the argument that more CPUs is cheaper, either. Going from a 4P server to an 8P server is how much, do you suppose? If you want to maintain your scalability, you would add more memory, more networking, more disks, etc.
I'm sure the disks give some advantage to the benchmark, but I doubt that it's huge enough to invalidate the results. A better question might be why AMD does not use a similar number of disks. It would have to be less expensive than 32GB of fast memory.
