But more importantly, HP says that it wants to distinguish its music player from competitors. Apparently HP wants a design exclusive to them. That would seem to preclude them from releasing the same design as the Gateway player.

Actually, it`s both ... "unique" was the word you know who used in his telephone response to one of my e-mail questions on 10-16-03 that read as follows:
3. When utilizing the Odyssey 1000 platform can an OEM design a jukebox with a very different appearance, or would the shell have to be similarly aligned ? Could a mechanism other than the scrollbar be used ?
... and he thought that we would be pleased when we saw them ... sometime between now and mid 2005 I think he said, or did I hear that from someone else ?? No, on second thought he didn`t say when !!
And remember what Fred stated in his 10-21-03 Shareholder Alert ??
"Because of the flexibility of our MicroOS we have developed a wide range of feature sets for the Odyssey 1000 platform, providing many choices for OEM customers. This a-la-carte model allows OEM clients to customize the Odyssey 1000 platform for their individual specifications and product needs."
I guess there`s no telling what unique designs we could see ... at least that`s my understanding. Now, ain`t it nice to be flexible ?? ;~))
