At the heart of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO) is an innovative project aimed at encouraging the presence of small, medium and large scale science and technology based companies on the complex ground.
SHESTCO, being a research and development establishment, has the capability and manpower to collaborate with such technology based enterprises, adding value to their work, while at the same time benefiting from the synergetic effect of such partnership.
Xechem Pharmaceuticals, a United States registered company is currently at an advanced stage of setting up a manufacturing facility at SHESTCO. Xechem's preliminary product, Nicosan, a drug for dealing with the sickle cell ailment will be produced here and marketed within Nigeria and other regions of the world where sickle cell anaemia is endemic. Xechem and the Biotechnology Advanced Laboratory of SHESTCO are also collaborating on other projects.
The Technology Park is truly indeed an innovative concept. The drive now is on increased collaborative efforts between public sector establishments like SHESTCO and private sector companies. In this way, the quality of scientific research and development is maintained, while the application of research results to the development of products and provision of services is realised.
