#19075 RE: Elmer Phud #19071

Elmer -

What I was reacting to was your claim that Opteron was the highest performing processor in the world in all applications, even compared to Itanium.

Now I know you didn't say that, but I didn't say what you just quoted me as saying either. If you can make up quotes for me then I can make them up for you.

What can one say? Of course, I never said such as thing, as you admit in the second paragraph - I compared Opteron and Xeon. Then when you said that Opteron's advantage is restricted to gaming only, I produced three different benchmark sites that showed differently. (Well, two that actually showed it, Tom's merely stated it without proof.)

Now, as you know I don't post references for every thing that I state, only the things I feel are in dispute. I post as honestly as possible, and the very few mistakes were just that. I've admitted every mistake that has been shown to me, which can be counted on one hand over four years of posting.

However, posting statements without references only works if you establish a clear pattern of honesty and accuracy in the board record. If one purposely misleads, or is so blinded by company preference that one really believes fantasy as facts, then posts from such a person will not have impact and will be discounted by the readers. If you have thoughts about discrediting the board by posting things in a careless and partisan way, I assure you that it won't be the board that is discredited.

That's the difference: I may state facts without URLs when I feel the basic facts are not in dispute - but I never make up stuff. I post opinions as opinions, speculation as speculation, and facts as true as I best know them.

Which is why I occasionally have good things to say about Intel.

:)

P.S.: You say I misquoted you. Here are your actual words:

...only illustrative of how anyone can put together a set of benchmarks to prove their point and the misguided person who claimed Opteron clearly outperformed Intel's counterpart simply wasn't being objective.

Now, I was the only poster who made this claim over the weekend (and I backed it up). I quoted one word from you - 'misguided' - and it was reflective of the context of your wording.
